Questions

What you are looking at

Every number on this page is measured live, in your browser.

How is this different from LL-HLS?

Nearglass sends each frame to your browser as soon as it is encoded, over WebTransport, straight into the browser's decoder. There are no segments to wait for and no playlist to poll.

LL-HLS packages the video into short parts (200 ms here) listed in a playlist. The player waits for each part to be listed, fetches it over HTTP and keeps a few parts buffered before it plays. That buffer is most of its delay.

Which browsers work?

Chrome and Edge on a computer and Chrome on Android are the browsers we test most. Safari, on a Mac, iPhone or iPad, plays it too; that support is newer, and if the Nearglass panel stalls there, the LL-HLS panel still plays.

Firefox for Android has no video decoder the player can use, and networks that block UDP cannot carry it. In those cases the Nearglass panel says why, and the LL-HLS panel still plays.

What does "behind live" measure?

Your clock, synced to our server, minus the capture time stamped on each frame, taken when the frame is handed to your browser to draw. For LL-HLS it comes from the playlist's timestamps, so it is approximate. It leaves out your screen and the camera.

Why is my number different from someone else's?

"Behind live" includes the network between our relay and you, your device's decoder and how your browser draws the picture. A viewer farther from the relay, on busy Wi-Fi or on a slower device sees a higher number. Here is your path, live:

Can we use it for our own streams?

We are working with a small group of design partners now. Tell us about your stream.
